Deafness (2B)

Deafness is the complete loss of the ability to hear from one or both ears.
Deafness can be inherited or caused by birth complications, certain infections, use of ototoxic drugs, or exposure to excessive noise. Students may use interpreters or transcriptionists.

Formal Diagnostics

Documentation provided by an audiologist.

Intake Questions

  • What assistive technology have you found helpful as an accommodation?
  • Do you lip read?
  • Do you use interpreters and if so, what kind (e.g. ASL, SE, Oral, etc)?
  • Have you used CART or transcription services in the past?
  • What accommodations or strategies have been effective in the past?
